I am a Zhen's convert! My hubby and I love their BBQ Pork Lo Mein and their General Tso's Chicken (extra spicy!) A take-out order of dinner sized portions is enough for at least three meals for both of us, and it's fabulous!

Forget previous reviews, this place rocks. They have a vast menu and the portion sizes are huge, just as big as Happy Garden imo. They are also comparably priced. I have tried many different menu items and they all are great. I highly recommend Zhen's house special chow mein. I love having Zhen's leftovers the next day.

This is probably my favorite local restaurant (I'm in Scappoose). The portions are huge, particularly any of their noodles. Most visits, we have enough left over from each entree for lunch or dinner the following day. The food tastes great, and the prices are good. We typically order takeout, but have eaten in 3 or 4 times. The service has been good when we have eaten in. Also, unlike a lot of Chinese takeout we've had from other places, the portions for takeout seem to be equal to the size you get when you eat in. Many takeout places we've tried provide slightly smaller portions for the same price.

There seems to be some sort of disconnect in the language department here. Whenever I order the special (always the same) it is fine with plenty of food. But when I order something else I never get what I originally ordered.

Wonderful! Love the classic American Chinese style dishes. All of them just great. The place is clean, and best of all in my book: the portions are huge and the price is low. Come here every chance I get.

Good portions, friendly staff. Food is overly salty. Would recommend it especially given other options nearby but be sure to drink lots of water.

Pretty clean. Great service. Great prices. They serve fresh food with great flavor in huge portions. What more could u want? The host/server/bustboy is quiet but does a great job. As well as the cook. Very good! Will definitely return next time im I'm in the area.

Nothing negative to say about this place. The decor is lackluster, but they won't lose a star from me for it. The waiter was very friendly. The portions are enormous! In fact, with how much food you get for such a low price, you would think that the quality would be lacking; but that is not the case. My kids shared the lemon chicken. I have never had anything like it before! (I had to steal some) Instead of chunks of chicken that is breaded and deep fried, this is a whole chicken breast that is breaded and fried then sliced. It is crispy on the outside, and very most on the inside. I had the Mongolian Chicken. It was SO good. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, and it was nice and spicy just like I asked for. This is our new favorite spot for Chinese food in St. Helens!

Good food, bad service. We walked in at seven pm on a Thursday and the waitress walked right past without acknowledging us. They didn't seem very busy but we stood at the counter for a minute and decided to grab menus and sit at an empty table since we still hadn't been greeted. We sat there for over ten minutes before she brought water and another ten before we finally got our orders taken. After that we were pretty much ignored for the rest of our visit. I made eye contact with the waitress several times and smiled but she never smiled back or thought to ask if we were doing alright or needed anything. After our food was delivered and we ate, we still sat there with our forks down for a solid ten minutes before the other server asked if we would like boxes. The food was very good but I think I will stick to take out.

Just ate here tonight. Food was very good and the girl who served us was very nice and personable. Got a lot of food for the money. Only thing was if you want something spicy you better order it extra extra spicy or its not.

Happy Garden was closed so a nice lady in the parking lot stopped me after leaving the door and reading their hours sign. She told me to try Zhens on Columbia. The restaurant has stark white walls with what looks to be laminate flooring going half way up the walls. It had a few splashes of Red Banners displaying Chinese characters and such. They have a very good number of large booths. A young man greeted me with a "You can sit anywhere you want" as he exited into the kitchen. A very professional young lady offered me a menu and brought me some tea and water. She checked back to see if I was ready to order but was quite understanding when I told her no, not yet. Their menu was quite extensive as most Chinese menus are. This young lady was very patient with me being as I still wasn't ready when she came back. The third time I was finally ready to order and she still had a smile on her face for me. I ordered crab puffs to start (8). I asked if they had a smaller portion but unfortunately no they did not. I then ordered a combo of pork fried rice, sesame chicken and fried shrimp. The crab puffs really didn't have much flavor and for the life of me I didn't see or taste any crab. It tasted very bland cream cheese stuffed fried one ton. Sad. No onions, no garlic, no S&P, no crab no nothing. The hot & sour soup really wasn't a hit for me. It was mostly egg flour soup with a very mild hot taste. I know that is in oxymoron but the best way I can describe the lack luster flavor and minimal spice. When my meal arrived it was ginormous! OMG, when the waitress asked if I would need anything else I asked her to bring a box. I can't finish this. Sadly all things I ended up getting was all fried food. For fried food I guess it is ok. I felt it was overkill though. Too much. Fried rice had absolutely no flavor. I did try the left overs again thinking maybe I was too tired to enjoy the meal. Nope. Still bland and flavorless. To be fair, I will try this place again. I will order nothing deep fried but for now since I did, I can only give it 2 stars. Again, my waitress was excellent especially since she was the only one running the floor. She had her timing down, to say the very least. Oh, and a smile to boot.

Add a tentative 1/2 star to this review... The newcomer to a tiny podunk town already featuring two Chinese American restaurants. I've priced out menus, side by side by side, and pretty much across the board, Zhen's is most expensive, or at least equal to Happy Garden. However, Happy Garden has featured larger portions (significantly larger) and tastier as well, from everything I've sampled. Bing's was unilaterally cheaper than either place, and the gold standard---the shrimp fried rice--- was definitely better, far less greasy, w/fresher, larger shrimp, and also cheaper at Bing's. This process, btw, made my work reviewing the 3 eateries, back to back to back a piece of rice-cake! Sorry Master Zhen, this review does not mean to offer you any disrespect or offense. We know you are a struggling new-ish enterprise in a small town where there are so many empty store-fronts from all the competiton Walmart wiped out when it came to town over ten years ago. Hang in there Zhen, there is room for growth, just as there is room indeed for improvement. We'll be back to check on your progress, with sincere hopes for your improvement and survival. Shay-shay!

Huge Portions. Great Food. Good Service. The food at Zhen's is the best Chinese in Columbia County. Not just orange chicken but actual Chinese food prepared when you order it.

Amazing Chinese food, NOT your average Chinese/American fare by any means. Authentic, tasty and very reasonably priced. Dine-in or Take-out you can't go wrong with this place XXX

Zhen's is a great improvement from the former Lam's. Clean, smells good and bright! And the owners are friendly! The food is comparable to Happy Garden. Large portions when you eat in, definately enough to give you an extra meal or two! The quality and flavor of the food depends on who is cooking...sometimes the flavors are amazing, other times, not soo much, same with things being a little on the greasy side! But I would have to say overall, when you weigh out all the pros and cons, this is the best Chinese restaurant in town!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
